Water Filter

What to look for:
Water filtration systems for home use vary in effectiveness, cost, space & maintenance requirements. They all require periodic filter replacement. Below are some of the best options I found for each type. One of these might work for you.

Where to buy online:
APEC Top Tier - Ultra Safe, Premium 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filter System (ROES-50)
built in the USA
removes more contaminants than counter-top systems and very convenient once installed (water comes out of the faucet already filtered), but requires under-sink installation involving basic plumbing (designed to be do-it-yourself though, so doesn't require hiring a plumber if you can handle basic plumbing yourself)

Berkey BK4X2-BB Big Berkey Drinking Water Filtration System with 4 Filters - 2 Black Filters and 2 Fluoride Filters 2.25 Gallon
made in the USA
stainless steel water tank
removes more contaminants than simple/smaller pitcher systems, but requires more space and more effort to set up/maintain; Berkey's website says their home water filters are used by the Royal household in England

Black+Blum Charcoal Refill Water Filter
a simple charcoal stick that you leave in a pitcher or glass or water overnight to absorb the contaminants from the water; might not remove as much/as many contaminants as other filtration systems, but the nice thing about this is that you can use a glass pitcher and avoid water coming into contact with plastic altogether

Dog Dish

What to look for:
Some dogs like their food and water bowls raised off the floor. Stainless steel, glass, or lead-free ceramic are all better options than plastic. If you want a ceramic dish, I would personally only trust human food-grade ceramic dishes made in the USA and specifically labeled lead-free.

Water Fountain

What to look for:
Stainless steel or ceramic are better than plastic. Plastic might leach chemicals into the water and affect the taste of the water, and tends to harbor bacteria and other microorganisms more easily, especially once it gets some scratches on it inevitably. If you select a ceramic model, make sure the glaze is lead-free.

Where to buy online:

Pioneer Pet Raindrop Ceramic Drinking Fountain
made in China
other color option(s) available
product/packaging itself doesn't say whether this is lead-free, but in the Amazon customer question and answer section the manufacturer's representative claims that it is lead-free; I'm skeptical and if I were buying this I'd test it for lead personally
